First Year School Tour and Sports Day
The First year students in Athboy Community School enjoyed a very successful end of year tour recently to Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre in Monaghan. 80 students and four staff members went on the trip; Year Head Mr Magner, tutors Ms Moore and Ms Garrett and teachers Mr Hilliard and Ms Drake.
The students went to Lough Tanagh for water sports like canoeing and team bonding games followed by a mud slide. Afterwards the group headed to the Bog Obstacle course where great fun was had doing races and team tasks and a low ropes course.
All of the students enjoyed the day out and would like to thank all the teachers involved in the organisation of the trip and to those who came along on the day.
In other news, the First Year Student of the Year Awards were announced at a ceremony in the school gymnasium. The awards were based on academic and extra-curricular credits built up by the students during the year. The Student of the Year in the Corrib class was Mya Frazer-Luc. The winner in the Foyle class was Craig Long. Darragh Murtagh scooped the award in the Lee class group and in the Slaney class it was Libby Kelly who was the winner. Congratulations to all concerned.
The First year also had a very successful Sports Day on campus during their final week. The event was organised by Mr Tynan and the Peer Mentor group with help from P.E. teacher Ms Fitzgerald. It featured track and field events, obstacle courses and team games. A great day was had by all and the students would again like to thank all concerned in organising and running the event.
